Among close observers of these things, it has become common knowledge that the Hot Bodies aficionado is not out of luck if he wants to top his D8 or Ve8 with a ridiculously stylish and functional FTW body–despite the fact that FTW does not offer a tailor-fit body for either. FTW team driver Brian “Smiley” Henn, who also happens to be a team driver for Hot Bodies, can be credited with discovering that FTW’s Night Fox body for Mugen’s MBX6R is a reasonably good fit for the D8, and that the Exabyte body for the Tekno V4-converted D8 (FTW00027A) is almost a perfect fit for the Ve8.

Recently, Smiley discovered an even better choice for the D8–the Night Fox for XRAY’s 808 (FTW00010). Unlike the Mugen body, this one even has a clearance hump for the throttle linkage. By moving the rear body post to the top mounting position and doing a little custom trimming he found it to be an excellent fit. Check out the photos and you’ll agree.

Team FTW wondered what would happen if they stretched the wheelbase of the Team Associated B4.1. So they bolted T4.1 chassis to their B4.1s, notched their Night Foxes for clearance, and hit the track. Testing on various surfaces, they found the B4.1/T4.1 was more forgiving and could be pushed harder. All that was left was to stretch the Night Fox to fit. The result is the Night Fox XL, the only body shell designed to fit a B4.1 equipped with a T4.1 chassis. The Night Fox XL body fits Team Associated B4.1 1:10 scale off-road buggy. Night Fox is formed from clear .030″ Lexan with a protective outer film and includes two wings, a decal sheet, and window masks.

Amp up your assault on the checkered flag by deploying FTW’s stealthy Night Fox body for B4.1. Its revolutionary knife-edge styling strikes a blow for functionality with its excellent downforce characteristics that you’ll feel in the turns. You’ve never seen anything like it. Deploy Night Fox For The Win! Night Fox fits Team Associated’s B4.1 1:10 scale off-road buggy. Night Fox is formed from clear .030” polycarbonate with protective outer film. It comes clear with molded cut lines and includes two wings, a decal sheet, and window masks. NOTE: Night Fox for B4.1 also fits B4.1 Worlds Edition and +8mm chassis-equipped cars almost perfectly if attached with Velcro.

We’ve been asked that more than a few times since we introduced the Night Fox for Mugen MBX6R last week. We got a new ECO roller yesterday so we could answer that question. We used a pair of SMC 2S 6000mAh 60C packs stood on end in the staggered configuration for this exercise. The case measures 47mm wide, so that is the height you can use to compare with your preferred battery.

We first mounted the stock body to set the baseline for comparison. As you can see in the pictures, the stock body does not fit perfectly. It sits just a little higher on the battery side. The pictures below illustrate this.

Having set the baseline, we then mounted the FTW Night Fox body for MBX6R. We basically have the same situation, but a little more pronounced, as you can see in the picture below.

In an effort to try to gain some more clearance, we next inserted a 3mm spacer below the front body mount. A lot of people use this technique to achieve optimum fitment when mounting our Night Fox for RC8B on the RC8.2e Actually, if you know what the front body mount looks like on the Mugen, you know a regular spacer or washer will not fit, since the mount has an indexing tab molded in. We whacked a notch in our spacer and the problem was solved.

So we mounted the Night Fox again.

Its still a wee bit sideways. But then so is the stock body. So its your call. We hope that helps you come to a conclusion on whether to go for it.
