Had another great weekend of racing, good friends and family—what else could you ask for? I ended up TQ’ing both Nitro Buggy & Truggy and Qualified 2nd in both 4×4 SCT & E-buggy. 

I took 1st in Nitro Buggy and 2nd in 4X4 SCT. In Truggy I took 3rd after leading for most of the race until a bad crash and a flame out with about 2 to go. Still got a top 5 in e-buggy after a really bad run. I have to say thank you to the good Lord for another safe trip, my family, and my sponsors AKA, HobbyWing, FTW, Vp Racing Fuels, Vp-Pro, Tekno RC, Venom, DE Racing and RadioPost. I truly appreciate each and every one of you for your help and support.

A big contingent of Team FTW converged in Hutto, Texas over July 4th weekend for the highly anticipated Grand Opening race at Thornhill Racing Circuit presented by FTW. This amazing new facility boasts a spacious driver’s rostrum overlooking the largest track in the US, a hybrid Euro-American circuit built by Joey “The Dirt” Christensen. Team FTW joined racers from around the region as well as Mexico and even Brazil arriving Thursday night, eager to run their first laps at TRC.

Friday’s practice left some rubber on the fresh surface, and traction continued to build throughout 4 rounds of qualifying Saturday allowing fast laps times to dip into the 44 second range. The Pro E-buggy class was clearly the domain of Team FTW where Jake Dellinger led a sweep of the top five spots in qualifying. With a ton of momentum from his A-main finish at the recent ROAR Nats, Jake Dellinger also was the third-fastest in Pro Nitro buggy behind XRAY’s  Josh Glancy and Kurt Kellum. On-road ace Nick Lefebvre put FTW in the third qualifying spot in Pro Truggy behind Glancy and Kellum. Team FTW took three of the top five spots in Pro 4 as well, led by class TQ Andrew Clark.

The team’s dominance in the electric classes would carry over to Sunday’s mains. Dellinger and “Smiley” Henn each won a double A-main in Pro E-buggy, with the tie-breaker going to Jake. Isaac Price took third to complete the class sweep for FTW. In Pro4, TQ Clark never looked back, taking the overall win ahead of Aaron Royston. 13-year old Noah Dickerson impressed in his first outing with Team FTW, taking third to secure the second class sweep of the weekend.

No one could catch Glancy in Pro Nitro Buggy, so the fight was for second. Dellinger mounted a late race charge but in the end settled for third behind Kellum. In Pro truggy, Tyler Hooks charged from the eighth spot on the grid up to third until retiring due to breakage.

Question: Which Night Fox fits the B4.1 with +8mm chassis, or the B4.2?

Answer: Night Fox for B4.1, part number FTW00002

It’s not as perfect a fit as we would like, but if you’re using Velcro in lieu of body clips to attach it you will be hard-pressed to notice. Check out the pics.

You might be wondering if the Night Fox XL is a better choice. In short, its not. Designed for a B4.1 with a T4.1 chassis, its limousine-esque 19mm stretch makes it way too long to fit the +8mm chassis-equipped cars.

If you’re one of those people that loves everything about his/her Serpent 811 except that fact it cannot be taken to the next level of awesomeness with an FTW body shell, listen up. Somebody took a Night Fox intended for a Mugen MBX6 and jammed it onto an 811. Other than some creative trimming up front, it appears to have been a simple operation. So order up part number FTW00025 and get awesome.

Among close observers of these things, it has become common knowledge that the Hot Bodies aficionado is not out of luck if he wants to top his D8 or Ve8 with a ridiculously stylish and functional FTW body–despite the fact that FTW does not offer a tailor-fit body for either. FTW team driver Brian “Smiley” Henn, who also happens to be a team driver for Hot Bodies, can be credited with discovering that FTW’s Night Fox body for Mugen’s MBX6R is a reasonably good fit for the D8, and that the Exabyte body for the Tekno V4-converted D8 (FTW00027A) is almost a perfect fit for the Ve8.

Recently, Smiley discovered an even better choice for the D8–the Night Fox for XRAY’s 808 (FTW00010). Unlike the Mugen body, this one even has a clearance hump for the throttle linkage. By moving the rear body post to the top mounting position and doing a little custom trimming he found it to be an excellent fit. Check out the photos and you’ll agree.

PORTER, TX—The yearlong RC Pro Series points battle culminated last weekend with the RC Pro Series National Finals. Several class titles were up for grabs as the series’ top drivers converged upon Porter, Texas’ world-class Gulf Coast Raceway to decide who would go home with a trophy. What appeared to be a fast track layout in the end took its toll on the cars. Breakage was rampant throughout the weekend, exacerbated by the marathon of five qualifiers. In the end, the series finale unquestionably belonged to Ryan Lutz, who took wins in 4WD SC, Pro buggy, Pro truggy, and E-truggy. The crowning of national champions however was largely a Texas affair.

For the third consecutive year David Joor clinched the E-buggy crown, followed by Jake Dellinger, Mike Battaile, Danny Bartholomew, and Smiley Henn for a podium sweep by FTW bodies. Henn’s mastery of the short course earned him the 4WD SC national title, while FTW teammate Battaile joined him on the podium with his 3rd place finish in the points chase.

FTW’s Eddie Doggett ended his impressive 2012 campaign with a national title in the intermediate truggy class and a third place points finish in intermediate buggy. Josh Glancy secured the Pro buggy national title ahead of FTW’s Dellinger (2nd), Henn (4th), and Battaile (5th). Battaile put the exclamation point on his 2012 season by taking the Pro truggy title.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA—The Awesome Brawl Cash Race this past weekend at Awesome Hobbies was particularly awesome for Brian Miskolczi. In his typically dominant fashion, Brian drove his way to the TQ spot in both nitro and electric buggy classes. That’s when things got interesting.

To spice up the dash for cash, the TQ for each class would flip a coin, and if he called it incorrectly the field would be inverted. Brian lost both his coin flips, sending him to the back of the grid for both nitro and electric buggy A mains. Undeterred, he sliced his way to the front of the pack, taking the win in the 30-minute nitro buggy main and 2nd in the electric buggy 10-minute triple A mains.

Technical issues plagued Brian’s truggy throughout the quals, so the truggy TQ’s loss on his coin flip put Brian on the pole. He never looked back, putting two laps on the field on the way to another decisive win.

Brian underscored all the above by taking fast lap honors in all three class.

WEST MONROE, LA — Those who have attended generally rave about the Southern Nats, and its easy to see why. Held in a cavernous temperature-controlled facility perfectly suited to a major RC race, the event typically draws around 300 participants including pros like Ryan Lutz and Josh Wheeler. Team FTW joined that number this year, ready to make a statement. They did.

Jason Branham was strong all weekend in Pro buggy and truggy. He narrowly missed the Pro truggy win after a pitched battle with eventual winner Josh Wheeler. Branham would get the job done later in Pro buggy. With cool consistency he outlasted the field and took the crown. He was joined on the podium by Jake Dellinger, who added to his recent string of impressive finishes with 5th place run.

Open buggy and truggy were the domain of Andrew Clark. After taking the Open truggy title with authority, he followed up with a determined drive in buggy that earned him his second win of the day.

Jake Dellinger and David Joor added to the hardware count for Team FTW with 3rd and 5th place finishes respectively in Pro E-buggy.

With wins in the A1 and A2 mains, Ryan Lutz took the 4wd short course title, but the battle for second was intense throughout. Andrew Clark and “Smiley” Henn traded the spot back and forth with flair, consistently airing it out over the big double that deterred all others but Lutz. Henn would win the duel and take 2nd overall, followed by Clark in 3rd. Mike Battaile grabbed a third podium finish for Team FTW, taking 5th with a relentless charge following early issues.

It was just brought to our attention by an anonymous source that FTW00031 Night Fox for Agama A8 fits Tekno V4 conversions rather nicely.

Considering that A) before FTW changed the game with the purpose-built Exabyte body, Tekno V4 owners used Losi bodies that were too wide, and B) Agama A8 bodies are similar similar to Team Losi 8ight bodies but narrower, this makes sense.

The chassis shot, which shows how well the body fits to the V4 mud guards, is unfortunately all we have at this point. Though we don’t have any more detail from the photos, there are a some observations we should make based on our experience with all the components under discussion here. The Exabyte has greater clearance for big LiPos than the Night Fox body in question, so if you are using a monster pack Night Fox probably won’t fit. Also, the Exabyte bodies for Tekno V4 conversions (FTW00027A & FTW00027B) were designed to clear the large profile of the big ‘ol Castle ESCs. If you are still running a monstrous ESC, Night Fox may not clear it. We are told the car in the photo is running a Tekin RX8 and it fits fine. Also, as the photo car is apparently an RC8.2, we can say this works with that conversion, and should also match up to the body mounts of a Team Losi 8ight V4 conversion. The body mounts on other cars may not match up as well, so you may have to go with the Velcro solution.

This past weekend the FTW posse made the trek to T and T Speedway in Shreveport, LA for the Dialed Race. An 8″ deluge submerged the track the week of the race posing a seemingly insuperable challenge for the world’s greatest track builder, Joey “The Dirt” Christensen, and the local track building team. With the application of countless man-hours and a fleet of serious earth moving machinery a race track was somehow carved from the muck and practice commenced Friday evening. It might not have been the track everyone imagined before the rains came, but it was a great layout with a wild surface that proved to be a formidable equalizer that dished out traction rolls and cartwheels with equal disdain for all racers. Gate starts and a Reedy Race format made for some spectacular moments in the Invite class.

It was awesome to meet so many cool people from all over the US who are so passionate about racing rc cars. So many of you are donning FTW shirts and hats and pushing your FTW-equipped rides to the max out on the track. Thank you. We’re so energized to get back to the labs and develop more cool stuff.

Team FTW racked up several podium finishes. On Saturday Kurt Kellum rocked Invite Truggy from the start, securing a second place finish after 4 of the 6 rounds. Mike Battaile was on fire too, and took home third.

On Sunday Kurt faced some technical challenges but took Invite buggy’s fifth plaque. En route he logged a blistering 25.1 in race 2 of 6–the fastest lap of the day at that point and one that we think stood till the end of the day.

FTW also took home most of the shiny Dialed plaques in E-buggy. Mike Battaile took second, Hunter Kinsey took third in his first ever E-buggy outing, and David Joor took fifth.

FTW-equipped rides blitzed sportsman and open buggy too. Robby Williams’ storm trooper white Night Fox-equipped RC8.2 dominated sportsman buggy. With a Night Fox-equipped XB9, Micah Smith TQ’ed open buggy and brushed off an early flameout to grab third.
